Cup Winners' Cup Trophy
Winner of the Cup Winners' Cup
HISTORY
The European Cup Winners 'Cup or Cup Winners' Cup, sometimes abbreviated as CVC or C2 (which was called the "European Cup Winners 'Cup" until 1994 , after which it was renamed "Winners' Cup Cup ') is a former European football competition organized by UEFA which brought together Cup winners from each European country. The first edition takes place during the 1960-1961 season and the last, in 1998-1999. It is then deleted to allow the extension of the Champions League , the winners of national cups now gaining access to the Europa League .
From 1973 a match took place each year between the winner of the European Cup of Champions Clubs (called "Champions League " since 1992) and that of the European Cup Winners Cup, the winner of the match winning the UEFA Super Cup . Since the disappearance of the Cup Winners' Cup, the match has pitted the winner of the Champions League against that of the UEFA Cup (called the “ Europa League ” since 2009).
